If you work with RevShare deals, you’ll see the term NGR (Net Gaming Revenue) all the time. Understanding it is essential because your RevShare payout often depends on how the program defines revenue.

What does NGR mean?
NGR (Net Gaming Revenue) is a “net” revenue figure used by many gaming/affiliate programs. It typically means the revenue after certain deductions are applied (the exact formula depends on the program’s terms).
Important: There is no universal single NGR formula. Always read the program’s definition.
Why NGR matters for affiliates
In a RevShare deal, your payout usually looks like:
Affiliate payout = NGR (or other revenue base) × RevShare %
So if the program’s NGR includes many deductions, the number you share can be much smaller than “gross revenue.”
Common deductions that may affect NGR
Programs differ, but these are commonly listed in terms:
Bonuses and promotional credits
Chargebacks and refunds
Payment processing fees
Fraud adjustments
Admin or platform fees
Taxes/other regulatory costs (depending on jurisdiction and terms)
Tip: You don’t need to argue about “what’s fair” — you just need clarity before scaling.
NGR example (simple math)
Example 1
Player deposits/spends: $500
Gross revenue basis: $500
Deductions (bonuses/fees/chargebacks): $150
NGR: $350
Your RevShare: 25%Payout = $350 × 0.25 = $87.50
Example 2 (multiple players)
Total gross revenue: $12,000
Total deductions: $3,000
NGR: $9,000
RevShare: 30%Payout = $2,700
Negative carryover (what it is and why it matters)
Negative carryover usually means that if a period ends negative (after deductions), the negative balance can carry into the next period and reduce future payouts.
This can be a big deal for affiliates because a “bad month” may impact your next month’s earnings.

What to ask before you accept a RevShare deal
Use this exact checklist:
What is the revenue base: NGR, net revenue, gross revenue?
Which deductions apply, and are there caps on them?
Is negative carryover used? (Yes/No)
How often is revenue calculated and paid (Net-15/Net-30)?
Are there tiers that increase RevShare % at volume?
FAQ
Is NGR the same in every affiliate program?
No. NGR definitions vary by program and jurisdiction.
Does higher RevShare % always mean higher earnings?
Not necessarily. A lower % on a cleaner revenue base can outperform a higher % on a heavily deducted base.
